Another challenge to our area's year-round food security is our local climate. Altitude, temperature, and rainfall are uncertain in Taos, making it hard to rely on sources for local food through all four seasons.

Thanksgiving Farms looks to bring innovative three-position mobile greenhouses, pioneered by Elliot Colman, to Northern New Mexico so as to achieve year-round food production and double the yield compared to a stationary greenhouse. Each greenhouse erected at Thanksgiving Farms will multiply the bounty of food we are able to provide to our local food banks, provide a year round education program for schools, and simultaneously serve as a pilot-project, testing the production system and production values. We are eager to develop this greenhouse design model for our area and other regions with similar climates, then fabricate and install them throughout the region to get people producing.
