The Taos Farmers Sunday Market is run by Taos area youth, who learn work responsibilities in a supportive environment. Week to week, these young people improve their abilities to interact with vendors, the public, and each other. They learn the look, the feel, and the taste of many a vegetable, and begin to know its harvest season, its growth requirements, and even tasty recipes for food preparation. They spend time seeding, cultivating and harvesting produce and seed for saving, and at other times they hone their business skills through marketing farm goods and tracking the day's cash flow. Their hard work does not go unnoticed – by our community or by the schools and colleges for which they are better prepared.
