Waste isn't waste to anyone who appreciates the resourcefulness of nature. By observing natural ecosystems we can see that waste from one process is an ideal resource for another. Taking cues from the natural world, where nothing is wasted, we are continually thinking of ways to reuse all sorts of agricultural waste and transform it into usable forms—like bio-fuel and high quality organic compost. With a little creativity and knowledge, bio-waste streams can be converted into regenerating energy sources that reduce pollution.
Tierra Lucero is launching a pilot project to reclaim waste vegetable oil (WVO) and transform it into bio-fuel that will power vehicles throughout Northern New Mexico. Securing a way to keep our region's goods and services flowing will help shield Northern New Mexico's economy from the vagaries of the uncertain energy future our world faces. With peak oil upon us and the race to claim the last remnants of nonrenewable energy, now is the time to take our energy future into our own hands. We can procure much of our energy locally, achieving greater transparency in the process and a more equitable distribution of energy resources.
Our composting program has the ability to draw from overflowing landfills and polluting feed lots by turning green waste and manure into soil-reviving nutrients. Additionally, every purchase of our top-rated Beyond Organic A++ Compost gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to support hunger relief in Northern New Mexico—and a secure food and energy future for subsequent generations.
