Pointing kids toward a connection to nature at a young age is paramount. Children are inherently curious about their world, and eager for any opportunity to explore it. By placing seeds in their hands and letting their curiosity lead them, they will begin to see the way their world is interconnected and full of life. Their self confidence will grow alongside the seedlings. When families engage with their kids in this experience, it renews the hope for sustainable, community-based interdependence, resilience, and vitality for generations to come.
Tierra Lucero welcomes participants who are ready to dig in and grow community. We offer one and two-year internships guided by experienced farmer, Bob Pedersen.
Even with no prior experience, completing a three-season-long internship will sufficiently train interns to take on responsibilities within our farm network and our Farmers Market. Second-year interns will gain sufficient experience to give them the confidence to establish their own farms for market sales or to begin homestead farming.
Beyond two years of participation, Tierra Lucero will provide Market Farmer Starter Kits for any interns wanting to establish a farm in the Taos Area. Alternatively, opportunities may be available for paid year-round work within Tierra Lucero.
Organizations including church or school groups who want hands-on experience in food production, sustainable ecology, and community outreach might find Tierra Lucero has many such opportunities. Whether we're planting, transplanting, harvesting, market selling, or distributing food to those in need, we can always use more hands. large groups can participate and complete a day or week of work and have a sense of accomplishment on a particular project.
